Sketchbook 101
Starting a new sketchbook can be daunting. Sharing my work on social media can add a whole new level of anxiety, as the pressure to be cute and presentable for this unknown and assumed high-brow audience mounts. But my sketchbooks ain’t cute. They are dirty and ragged. Scribbly and smeared. There are grocery lists and food orders. Notes to self and half-baked ideas. Experiments. Failures. Failures are the best.
It’s a bit like a diary too, marking my days and noting the little pleasures. Gosh, I remember that bahn mi sandwich well.
It is where characters and story develop. Faces pop up across the pages. Some only for the fleeting moment. Others will come back, migrate outside of the doodles and become stars in their own show.
My sketchbook is me at my most grizzled, nude and unwashed. Have a peek if you’re into that kind of thing.
